Description

Yestermorrow Design/Build School is currently recruiting for the new position of Lead Build Instructor for its inaugural Sustainable Design/Build Semester Program in Fall 2011.

Position Overview:

The Lead Build Instructor will guide students from the beginning to the end of the hands-on project construction process. This will be a 6 to 8 week full-time position; the Lead Build instructor will also perform some part-time project preparation tasks remotely, beginning in August, and will be available to communicate with students and other faculty for consultation on design development, project budget, etc. The role will largely be that of an on-site construction and problem-solving mentor.

This person will have a strong teaching background, demonstrated experience in architecturally innovative and high performance construction methods, and deep expertise in many aspects of building.

Responsibilities:

Working in close consultation with the Lead Faculty and Program Director, the Lead Build instructor will help students structure their own collaborative process, guiding their efforts to devise a work schedule, coordinate with the client, work within and manage a budget, coordinate with sub-contractors and professionals in the building trades, and delegate and divide project tasks, etc.

The Lead Build instructor will be responsible for ensuring that students work efficiently, safely and productively on the job site, balancing imperatives of cost, quality, safety, speed (as one would on any professional job), and aligning the day-to-day work on the project with the overarching experiential and conceptual learning objectives of the semester.

The Lead Build Instructor will also deliver guest lectures, advise on studio exercises, and assist the lead faculty with student assessments and evaluations. The part-time (15 hours/week) phase will begin in early August 2011; the full-time position on site in Vermont will run from mid-September to mid-November 2011.
