Seasonal Gardener and Interpretation Assistant

Position Overview:

Seed Savers Exchange is seeking a Seasonal Gardener and interpretation assistant to prepare and beautify the Lillian Goldman Visitor Center grounds and display gardens. This position will assist in creating interpretive and educational materials, displays and program to enhance the visitor experience. This position will run seasonally May through September.

Responsibilities:

• Experienced in design, preparation and maintenance of display garden
• Basic understanding of correct horticultural practices and experience in all aspects of routine garden maintenance, including but not limited to: planting, weed identification and control, and plant identification knowledge
• Creating signage for display gardens and assist with the development and implementation of educational displays in and around the LGVC
• Give tours of display gardens and Seed Savers Exchange to visitors
• Assist with any events held at the LGVC and Herman's Garden Seed Donation Program
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Associate degree in Horticulture required; a 4 year degree in Horticulture or related field preferred; experience in gardening/horticulture, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience coordinating events, interacting with the public and/or creating educational content a plus.

Physical Requirements: Lifting up to 50 lbs.

Working Conditions:

Position operates in a garden environment; must be physically able to work outside in all weather conditions and to perform physically demanding activities.

Compensation: $10/hour, 40 hours/week.

This is a full time seasonal position, reports to Membership Manager.
