Description
~ The mission of the Murie Science and Learning Center is to promote science and stewardship on behalf of national parks in northern Alaska. ~
Specific goals include:
- Engage the public with park science through interactive learning and research programs.
- Enhance the public's understanding of how parks use science to make management decisions.
- Share scientific findings in timely, compelling, and understandable ways.
- Use partnerships to enhance outreach offerings.
The Center is situated at the entrance to Denali National Park and Preserve. The operations of the facility are funded and facilitated by the National Park Service and Alaska Geographic. The MSLC is one of 19 Research Learning Centers operated by the Park Service nationwide. Research Learning centers seek to increase the amount of scientific research in the national parks and thus the effectiveness of science-informed decision making, and to make that science accessible to the public.
The Murie Science and Learning Center is open to the public from 9 am - 4:30 pm daily (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day).

Apply to join the Alaska Geographic science education team at the Murie Science and Learning Center in Denali National Park and Preserve for a summer of learning, exploration, sharing, and fun. We offer competitive pay rates and are committed to continuous learning and professional development.
The season begins in early May and ends early September. Part time and full time positions available. We prefer staff that can commit to the entire season, but will consider shorter durations. Responsibilities
- Deliver high quality interpretive presentations to groups visiting Denali including bus excursions, dinner presentations, interpretive talks, guided walks, and other custom education programs.
- Provide quality customer service and informal science education while staffing MSLC Lobby/Front Desk.
- Assist with equipment maintenance, facility projects, and program support/development as assigned.
- Host evening speaker series events.
- Depending on experience and qualifications, may work as a guide on multi-day field courses or as an instructor on youth programs.
Qualifications
- Naturalist or science/environmental education experience with adults, families, and youth.
- Excellent public presentation skills.
- Proven group management skills in an outdoor setting.
- Minimum of Basic First Aid and CPR certifications. Wilderness First Responder preferred.
- Positive and upbeat attitude in a fast paced work environment with a demanding schedule.
- Ability to work well with a diverse schedule and a high degree of responsibility.
- Knowledge of wildlife research and natural history of the subarctic.
- Experience with computers and common office software programs.
- Valid driver's license
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. (we do not sponsor employment visas).
