Description
Background:
The Science Camps Program Coordinator coordinates, implements, and
supervises programs associated with OMSI's camp/field programming. This
position also instructs natural science topics to schools and groups enrolled in
field programs.
Duties:
- Coordinate and instruct residential and non-residential programs.
- Insure
that all camp programs meet mandatory Oregon State and ACA
standards. - Insure program quality/safety through appropriately designed activities.
Assist in hiring and, train, supervise and schedule residential and day camp
instructional and support staff. - Serve as host of camp facilities and insure acceptable camp atmosphere at
all times. - Insure the well-maintained, serviceable, clean and attractive appearance of
OMSI equipment, buildings, campsites and properties. - Monitor closely all camp expenditures, especially salary line.
- Assist as needed with science camps and other OMSI education
programs. - Design individual program activities and curriculum.
- Insure the inventorying, re-stocking, maintenance, organization, repair, and
cleanliness of all camp equipment, supplies, and vehicles. - Assume other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Science Camps
Director.
Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of learning styles and instructional strategies.
- Thorough knowledge of the natural sciences and outdoor skills.
- Thorough knowledge of the safety and risk management areas of outdoor
programs. - Excellent driving record; experience with bus and van driving, trailer
hauling; knowledge of routine maintenance and safety inspections; CDL
license; ability to drive 8 hours in a day. - Wilderness First Responder, Life Guard Certification.
- Strong communication skills, dealing with teachers, professors, parents,
campers and staff both on-site and within OMSI. - A Graduate degree in Natural Sciences or Education is preferred; a
Bachelor's Degree is required. - A teaching certificate is preferred; a minimum of four years of teaching
experience is required. - Residential field programming with on-site supervising experience.
Education and Work Experience:
Compensation:
$24,000 - $27,000, plus room and board.
