Description

Irvine Nature Center is looking for an experienced program coordinator to join the Center's education staff. Candidates should have experience in designing and leading environmental education programs for all audiences and should possess skills in meeting facilitation, volunteer management and gardening for wildlife. The position reports to the Urban Education Director.

Areas of Responsibility:
* Oversee the planning, implementation and maintenance of schoolyard revitalization projects on elementary school grounds in Baltimore City
* Work with teachers across all grades to facilitate efforts to link the schoolyard habitat implementation plans into school curriculum (meeting national, state and local science standards)
* Assist in design and facilitation of teacher professional development workshops
* Coordinate a Steering Committee at each school, communicating with partners, organizing and facilitating meetings, and supporting the work of the Committee
* Arrange for materials, plantings and volunteer workers/work days related to schoolyard habitat projects
* Supervise and coordinate maintenance plans at each site
* Act as a clearinghouse for information regarding the implementation of schoolyard projects, fundraising and activities that connect schoolyard habitats to the local curricula
* Continue to develop existing curricula linking use of the schoolyard habitat to Maryland Core Learning Goals and National Science Education Standards
* Assist in development and leadership of Summer Fellowship Program, as part of Schoolyard Discovery program
* Facilitate expansion of the Schoolyard Discovery program to additional schools
* Assist in preparing grant proposals and grant reports to support the Schoolyard Discovery program
* Participate in regional groups (e.g., serving as Green School Champion for Baltimore City, attending Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education's Schoolyard Habitat Partnership meetings) 

To qualify, applicant must have:
* Bachelor's degree in education, natural science (biology, botany, etc.), environmental education/studies/science or related field
* Experience working in non-formal education (nature center, museum, etc.)
* Ability to work effectively with children, teens and adults, particularly within a public school system
* Experience with volunteer recruitment, organization and management
* Gardening experience/knowledge (preferred)
* Experience maintaining and working within a budget
* Excellent written and communication skills
* Organizational and time management skills
* Experience with Microsoft Office
