~ The Mohonk Preserve, located in Ulster County, NY is a non-profit organization - whose mission is to protect the Shawangunk Mountains region and inspire people to care for, enjoy, and explore their natural world. ~
We are responsible for managing and protecting 8,000 acres of a unique, world-class ecosystem and National Historic Landmark landscape. We have four integrated programs - Conservation Science, Education, Land Stewardship, and Land Protection, an annual budget of $3.7 million, over 350 volunteers, and a diverse support base of 15,000 members and supporters.
Position Overview / 2016 Vince Schaefer Research Internship
Interns
will work with Preserve Conservation Science staff, world-class scientists, and
land managers on:
- forest, meadow, stream, and lake
habitat use - long-term changes in natural
history of the region - recreational impact assessment
- detailed data collection &
management - Be a part of an exciting research
community working closely with researchers, educators and land management
professionals.
Interns
will develop an individualized research project, complete a written report, and
present their findings in an oral presentation at the end of the summer.
Dates: June to mid-August (10 weeks)
Eligibility: College freshmen & sophomores
Stipend:
$3,375
Other support: Housing is available on an as needed and space
available basis; Preserve membership for duration of the internship
