Position Overview:

NW Natural offers a Sales Engineer 2 opportunity to interested applicants. 

  • Develops and manages business relationships. 
  • Provides technical advice and sales to consulting engineers, architects, dealers, developers, design/build contractors, and employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with management to establish goals, priorities for the assigned market segment and ensures that sales targets are met.
  • Provides technical support to company sales consultants and other employees for opportunities involving the use of gas equipment for residential, commercial and multi-family customers.
  • Establishes strong working relationships with consulting engineers, architects, etc. to promote the use of natural gas. Maintains current knowledge of new developments in the industry and communicates with the appropriate customer communities.
  • Provides technical sales advice on rates and schedules, best application of gas to the business, and the sizing and selection of types of equipment.
  • Represents Northwest Natural's best interest on government boards, advisory councils and industry associations.
  • Plans and conducts seminars and information meetings for developers, builders, architects, engineers, and employees.
  • Operates vehicles on Company business in compliance with state/local laws and Company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
  • This position may require travel.

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical engineering degree and 3-5 years experience in sales of HVAC systems for residential, commercial and multi-family projects required.
  • Experienced in conducting fuel analyses and equipment feasibility studies. Knowledge of the natural gas utility industry is a plus.
  • Initiates contact with architects/engineers, and developers/builders.
  • Prior experience and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/functions.
  • Proven verbal communication skills for presenting to professional and technical customers and senior level management.
  • Strong written communication skills to assist in the design of marketing programs for various segments.
  • Analytical skills to review technical information on equipment and conduct feasibility studies for professional building designers.
  • Ability to design/develop new uses for natural gas equipment and new markets for the application of natural gas technology.
  • Knowledge of the competitive advantages of natural gas for various residential and commercial applications.
  • Understanding of market trends in both the natural gas and competitive industries.
  • Knowledge of key associations, people and businesses in the commercial marketplace.
  • Possess/maintain a valid Oregon/Washington Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.

Compensation:  Monthly Salary Range:  $5,316 - 7,708 depending upon qualifications (Grade 20).
