Position Overview

This position requires an intelligent and positive person, to assist the AASHE team by assuming responsibilities for selling new memberships, conference sponsorships and other products and services using technical, organizational, and customer knowledge to influence customers and assist them in applying the products/services to their needs resulting in revenue generation.

In addition the position provides input and participates in the marketing, market planning, and development of products and services. This position will work closely with the membership team and conference team in meeting sales goals, and reports directly to the Director of Membership and Marketing.

Responsibilities 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: 

  • This person will be trained in online tools to track and log activities, and will require aptitude and fluidity with technology applications in the logging, tracking and reporting of sales activities
  • At the Direction of the Management team, compile lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, industry ads, trade shows, Internet Web sites, and other external and internal sources
  • Responsible for executing sales strategies & goals for each product and service as established and set forth by the management team, and the Director of Membership and Marketing
  • Collaborating on & coordinating data & information with/from staff & member groups
  • Researching and developing lists of potential customers
  • Sharing and knowledge information gained in process of work to other staff
  • Following up on sales leads and making cold calls on potential customers
  • Maintaining up-to-date understanding of industry trends and developments that effect target markets
  • Establishing & maintaining industry contacts that lead to sales
  • Attending industry related trade shows as directed by and the discretion of the Director of Membership and Marketing, schedules meetings with corporate contacts, and makes sales presentations to customers and prospective customers
  • Making regular sales calls to develop relationships and follow up on leads
  • Establishing long-term, ongoing repeat relationships
  • Ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Managing assigned sales targets in a timely and effective manner
  • Assisting the Director with developing & projecting short and long range budgets
  • Monitoring and working within established budgets
  • Producing regular sales reports for the director
  • Providing accurate sales forecasting for budget planning
  • Providing feedback to the Director as relates to development of new products, modification of existing products, & termination of ineffective products in an effective and professional manner
  • Providing feedback and input to Director and Management Team in evaluating product & service marketability
  • Gathering, analyze, and share customer technical information & feedback
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Proficient in MS Office, Excel and database systems.
  • Ability to write promotional copy, business correspondence, reports 

Education/Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 or more years of experience in direct membership and/or corporate business to business sales required
  • Exhibit & sponsors sales experience highly preferred
  • Experience in marketing & public relations preferred
  • Association or Sustainability, and nonprofit arena industry experience preferred 

Travel Requirements: 

  • Some travel is required for this job
  • Travel expenses are paid for or reimbursed by AASHE
