Build It Green! is a building materials reuse center with the goal of informing the public about GREEN BUILDING and DECONSTRUCTION, while at the same time serving as an reuse outlet for discarded building materials.
Build it Green! NYC is a non-profit warehouse/retail store whose mission is to keep reusable building supplies out of the landfill while saving the community money on their purchase.
Position Overview:
We have opportunities available in our Astoria, Queens warehouse and our Gowanus, Brooklyn warehouse for a Warehouse Worker. This person will process inbound deliveries of donated building supplies, organize and clean the warehouse, as well as unload trucks. There are part-time and full time positions available. This is an hourly job, (hours: 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.) offering the opportunity to work with a great team, committed to saving the earth.
Responsibilities:
- Offload trucks; verify and process donations;
- Maintain inventory cleanliness and organization;
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves, aisles, storage areas, and equipment neat and in proper working order. Comply with all procedures, rules, and regulations;
- Assist in the daily housekeeping and maintenance of warehouse grounds such as sweeping, mopping and general warehouse maintenance;
- Work reliably and effectively, both independently and as part of a team;
- Perform other tasks and projects requested by Warehouse Manager, including possibly providing sales assistance and customer service, including operating the cash register and answering the telephone.
Qualifications:
- High School Degree, or GED equivalent;
- Ideal candidate will have experience in all warehouse functions to include: inventory processing; prior experience in warehousing environment / distribution center; previous work in non-profit, environmental groups a plus ;
- Warehouse skills needed; ability to physically lift/move inventory of up to 100 lbs;
- Helps to possess strong math skills;
- Basic knowledge of MS Office, ability to do data entry and navigate within the Windows operating environment; use of internet, email, etc...
- Strong organization skills; attention to detail;
- Should thrive in a fast-paced, multi-priority driven environment in which there are never two days of tasks that are the same;
- Collaborative and active listener; open to input and feedback, takes direction well;
- Strong communicator - ability to present information clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing;
- High energy; even-keeled temperament;
- Willingness to learn:
- Ability to come in early, stay late and work weekends absolutely necessary.
