Retail/Production Associate

Cistus Nursery on Sauvie Island  is a unique retail/design nursery offering a dynamic collection of plants, most of which are grown here, many of which are seldom found elsewhere in the industry. With over 10,000 plant species on record, Cistus is widely known for climate-appropriate plants and new textures for gardens, as well as an exciting collection of treasures gathered around the globe.

Position Overview

Cistus Nursery has a job opening for a hybrid Retail and Production Associate. Candidates should have knowledge of plants adapted to the Willamette Valley, and preferably a wide range of what we produce and/or interest in learning.

Schedule:

We are looking for someone who is available 5 days per week for 40 hours 9am-5pm (might be open to 2 part time people alternatively). You would have some dedicated retail days plus some production days, with the ability to step in and work coverage for retail if necessary. Mon-Fri shifts, but might require coverage on an occasional weekend day, never to exceed 40 hrs/week.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Retail sales and customer care.
• Retail plant care (watering, weeding, raking, pruning, etc.).
• Moving inventory around the nursery and into vehicles.
• Retail opening and closing procedures, etc.
• The production portion of the job may include watering, weeding, potting, pruning, staking, greenhouse maintenance, assisting with weather related maintenance, loading/unloading trucks, and other nursery duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Candidates should have a friendly and welcoming demeanor, be happy and comfortable working with the public, and have a passion, enthusiasm and love for plants.

Job requirements:

• Candidates must be able to stand/walk continuously on multiple surfaces (gravel, concrete, soil), lift up to 50 lbs regularly, stoop, kneel or stand, and work in extremes of weather (wet, hot, cold.)
• Candidates must also be comfortable learning and operating a computer/POS system.

Compensation

• $17/hr to start, plus sick and vacation paid time off and generous employee discount.
