Solano Resource Conservation District was formed in 1956 for the purpose of conserving and enhancing the living resources within its District.  SRCD is supported by County property taxes, grants and contracts and is governed by a Board which is appointed by the County Board of Supervisors.

The mission of Solano Resource Conservation District is to protect, promote and enhance the soil, water, wildlife, plant-life and air quality resources within Solano County. 

The employer is the Board of Directors of the Solano Resource Conservation District, and day to day supervision will be by the Executive Director. 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and implement all aspects of creek restoration on Rindler Creek.  This work includes reducing weed populations, planting native plants, and improving habitat for native wildlife species.  This position will also be responsible for contracting and overseeing installation crews and assisting in related field work.
  • Oversee and implement all aspects of the Flood Reduction Program in partnership with Solano County Water Agency (SCWA).  This work includes meeting with landowners and SCWA personnel to develop projects that reduce flood risks to rural residential properties in Solano County.  
  • Oversee and implement all aspects of the biological assessment of Laurel and Ledgewood Creeks.  This work involves researching and compiling data about watershed flora and fauna and cataloging at risk species. 
  • Under the guidance of the Restoration Program Manager, work as a team member implementing several different restoration projects in Solano County including restoration of Old Alamo Creek, installation of hedgerows and vegetated canals on farms and agricultural production facilities, and developing conservation plans for rural properties.
  • Oversee the work completed by an independent contractor for the Oak Woodland Restoration Grant.  This ongoing grant examines the effect of grazing on the survival and growth of several species of native oaks.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Ecology, Agriculture, Biology, Environmental Science or a related field of study is required.  A Masters degree in a similar field is preferred. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Windows 98, Excel and Arc View are required.
  • Knowledge of the Central California ecosystems and agricultural practices, threats to the landscape and regionally appropriate conservation and restoration methods are required. 
  • Applicant must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.  Applicant must have the ability work outdoors in wildland settings, which may include exposure to insects and wildlife, temperature extremes, and inclement weather. 
  • Applicant should be a team player with an ability to work with staff, board members and local landowners who have a diverse range of backgrounds, motivations and interests. 
  • A valid driver's license and liability insurance is required.
  • To perform the assigned duties, the employee will be required to work a mixture of evening and day hours, in the field and in the office. The regular work time will be 8-5 Monday through Friday with occasional night and weekend obligations. 

Compensation:  $42,000 - $48,000/yr DOE

The position is a full-time non-exempt position with medical, dental and vision benefits.   Retirement benefits furnished upon completion of a six (6) month probationary period. 

Employment at the SRCD is employment at-will.  Employment at-will may be terminated with or without cause and with or without notice at any time by the employee or the District.

This position is currently located in the Dixon Field Office of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Solano County, California.
