Background:
The Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force is a 501(c)(3)
not-for-profit corporation. The mission of the Task Force is to ensure the future of
salmon in the Stillaguamish, Snohomish and Island County watersheds. Our
projects and programs focus on salmon habitat restoration and protection, and
public outreach and education. Our membership represents commercial, tribal, and
recreational fishing interests, conservation organizations, the agricultural
community, and area businesses. The Task Force is a hands-on membership
organization, with hundreds of volunteers supporting our three full-time staff
members.
Duties:
The Habitat Restoration Project Manager reports directly to the Task Force
Executive Director and is responsible for managing and coordinating salmonid
habitat restoration project activities. This is a 40-hour per week position. Vehicle
mileage is reimbursable. Some weekend and evening work is required.
The primary responsibility of the Habitat Restoration Project Manager is to identify,
evaluate, develop, plan and implement salmon habitat restoration projects within the
Stillaguamish, Snohomish and Island County watersheds. Duties include:
- Plan and implement habitat restoration projects including management of
workers and contractor work accomplishment. - Coordinate with the Executive Director, restoration partners (including
tribes, county, conservation district, etc.), contractors, and landowner to
schedule work and equipment to accomplish each project task. - Prepare and submit applications for grants to local, state and federal
agencies and to private businesses, agencies and foundations. - Manage grants, contracts, and associated financial documents, as directed
by the Executive Director. - Design or coordinate the design, of habitat restoration projects and develop
project budgets. - Identify and acquire supplies and materials needed to complete each habitat
restoration project. - Complete permit applications for projects as needed.
- Prepare stream and wetland restoration site plans.
- Conduct site visits and project reviews with cooperators, landowners,
agency officials, etc., and respond to requests for information. - Document all site visits and contacts with landowners and persons
requesting assistance. - Assemble and manage a Project Committee to execute the Project
Committee Roles and Responsibilities as defined by the board of directors. - Prepare and/or review project proposal forms and provide verbal description
and assessment at meetings of the Project Committee. - Assist Volunteer Coordinator in organizing the use of volunteer workers and
supervise their habitat restoration work. - Assist with education and outreach by providing classroom and community
presentations, as directed. - Maintain written status of activities planned or taking place.
- Provide status report on activities to Task Force Board of Directors at their
meetings. - Participate in interagency watershed management committees.
- Maintain close liaison with the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife
Watershed Steward. - Maintain a tool and equipment inventory, repair and purchase equipment as
necessary. - Operate a motor vehicle on both public and private roads.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of theory, principles, and methods of stream and wetland
science, particularly as they relate to wetland and riparian restoration and
salmonid biology. - Ability to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing,
with co-workers, the public, private landowners, tribes, government
agencies, private company officials, and other non-profit organizations. - Knowledge of wetland and stream habitat restoration strategies.
- Knowledge of native vegetation, its benefits/detriments in riparian areas, and
non-toxic means for removal/control of invasive vegetation. - Knowledge of and ability to design, plan and implement watershed
restoration projects, including placement of log and rock weirs, removal and
installation of culverts, construction of fences, bioengineering methods,
placement of large woody debris, and planting of native vegetation in
riparian zones. - Ability to organize and plan own schedule of activities and to set priorities
related to work goals set by the Executive Director. - Organize several projects into an efficient timeline recognizing work
windows, equipment needs, and budget. - Ability to maintain accurate records regarding time-keeping and authorized
expenditures. - Ability to use e-mail, Word and Excel to write reports, track work progress,
and record field data. - A valid driver's license and dependable transportation is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the Stillaguamish, Snohomish and Island County watersheds.
- Familiarity with local resource management entities.
- Knowledge of local salmon recovery efforts.
- Knowledge of information technology.
Compensation: Salary is $16 per hour, plus benefits.
