The Klamath Basin Rangeland Trust is a non-profit whose mission is to restore and conserve the quality and quantity of water in Oregon's Wood River Valley and the Upper Klamath Basin to enhance the natural ecosystem and supply needed water for downstream agriculture, ranching, native fish and wildlife populations.
KBRT works with agricultural landowners in the Upper Klamath Basin to assist them in the adoption of more sustainable land and water management practices in order to provide more and better quality water to Upper Klamath Lake, while maintaining viable agricultural operations.
As part of this mission, KBRT undertakes habitat restoration projects. Restoration work includes wetlands, channel morphology, fish passage, riparian/riverine habitats, springs, and forest, grassland and pasture health. KBRT is now recruiting for a qualified habitat restoration specialist to lead the restoration work.
Position Overview:
The Klamath Basin Rangeland Trust (KBRT) is seeking a qualified employee to direct stream and wetland restoration activities (both engineered restoration and land and water management planning) in the Upper Klamath Basin, Oregon. The position reports to the Executive Director.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, coordinate, and implement restoration projects resulting in the rehabilitation and enhancement of habitat for aquatic and terrestrial wildlife species, riparian vegetation, and ecological function
- Identify and evaluate potential restoration projects
- Identify funding sources, prepare proposals, obtain funding for projects
- Complete all state and federal permitting requirements for restoration projects, and assist with resource agency permitting
- Overall project management (project budgeting, scheduling, and coordination, contractor selection and oversight)
- Construction oversight during restoration project implementation
- Site evaluation, Pre and Post-project monitoring (contracted or performed in-house)
- Preparation of technical reports including quarterly and annual monitoring reports for habitat restoration projects
- Conduct and/or coordinate monitoring activities of riparian and wetland habitats to determine the effectiveness of restoration activities
- Outreach to increase landowner involvement
- Foster and maintain positive relations with landowners, respecting their private land and any concerns they might have
- Close interaction with partners, including federal, state and local government agencies, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations
- Additional duties may be assigned as necessary
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher in hydrology, water resources, ecology, fisheries, or a related field; or sufficient professional experience
- 2 years professional experience preferred
- Comfortable working in the outdoors, with mildly challenging manual labor
- Experience with / knowledge of agricultural communities preferred
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with non-scientists
- Familiarity with GIS preferred
- Other desirable qualifications include applied habitat restoration experience; experience with state and federal regulatory processes; and experience working on interdisciplinary teams
- Valid driver's license
Compensation: $45,000 - $55,000 based on experience, with opportunity for advancement
