Headquartered in Flagstaff, Arizona, Working for Rivers is a full-service provider in the field of riparian ecosystem restoration. Our restoration focus is on removing invasive tamarisk and Russian olive and replanting with native vegetation. Projects will be conducted along rivers, streams and washes in the southwestern states of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, and Nevada. Our clients include federal and state land managers, municipalities, and private land owners.
Responsibilities:
Restoration Crew Foreman position available at Working for Rivers, a Flagstaff based consulting firm specializing in river restoration. Position responsibilities include removal of invasive species, replanting native plants, and managing job site logistics and multiple restoration crews.
The Crew Foreman will ensure each crew is on task and working efficiently and safely. He/she is also responsible for communicating with clients/land managers who visit the job site and maintaining a project log including complete field notes. In addition to managing work crews, some projects in more remote areas may involve coordinating boatmen who provide river transportation and a cook crew that manages camp duties and food preparation. All jobsite activities will be the ultimate responsibility of the Crew Foreman.
Qualifications:
Candidate must have prior leadership experience (large or multiple crews preferred), herbicide applicator license and backcountry Garlon® experience, chainsaw experience, river or back country experience, plant identification skills, and advanced first aid certification.
Candidates must be able to work independently and as part of a team, have a strong work ethic, multi-tasking ability, good communication and decision making skills, and a sense of humor. Background in natural resources, forestry, botany, or riparian ecosystems is preferred. Wages are dependent on experience. The work will generally take place in remote areas that may only be accessible by off-road vehicle, foot, or boat.
Camping near the job site will be a common requirement and work schedules will often be 10 days on/4 days off. Travel throughout the Southwest is required.
