The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 17,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking an experienced individual to join the Education & Research Department.

Position Overview:

The Building Performance Research Manager will assist and manage a growing variety of projects and ongoing activities contributing to USGBC's goal to increase collaboration and build on existing research as it relates to green building and LEED. This goal serves USGBC's customers, constituents, committees and staff. Job duties will generally involve management of research projects, assessment of research reports, and facilitating third-party research and collaborations.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Perform grant management and quality assurance tasks supporting USGBC's Green Building Research Fund.
  • Develop concept papers and RFPs; manage contracted research projects.
  • Conduct in-house research projects, such as in-depth case studies and various analyses of LEED project data.
  • Relate research findings to USGBC's technical, education and outreach needs.
  • Facilitate relevant third-party research projects through data sharing and consultation. Track other upcoming third-party research projects of interest to USGBC.
  • Participate in collaborative industry efforts - e.g., developing performance metrics and data sharing infrastructure.
    Represent USGBC at technical forums; Engage industry peers; Present research findings.

Qualifications:

  • Required: relevant masters degree (e.g. building science, architecture, engineering) and academic research experience on green building topics.
  • 2-5 years work experience is required - which may include PhD work- in diverse building performance research
  • Knowledge of current research and sources of research relating to green buildings
  • Quality report composition skills
  • Ability to critique research methodology and conclusions
  • Ability to communicate research results to expert and lay audiences
  • Strong statistical analysis skills
  • Survey design and analysis
  • Excellent skills in written and verbal communication, organization, and attention to detail
  • Proficient software skills (e.g., statistical analysis software; MS Office - especially Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

  • Related Organization Goals and Objectives:
  • To be both a resource for existing knowledge about green building research as well as a driver of relevant research.
    Increase USGBC's capacity to facilitate, analyze and disseminate research.
  • Position USGBC as a primary driver of emerging LEED-related and green building research agendas.
  • Increase collaboration and build on existing research as it relates to green building and LEED
