~ Portfolio 21 is a registered investment advisor providing portfolio management services to individual and institutional clients ~

Incorporated in 1987, the company is located in Portland, Oregon.  Total assets under management are over $600 million.  Portfolio 21 strictly invests in companies that are incorporating environmental principles into their business strategies. 

When considering investment opportunities we focus on the environmental aspects of products and services, the environmental awareness of companies, the environmental impact of companies, and how companies address these issues.  We also monitor companies' corporate ethics, governance and social responsibility. 

Position Overview

We are looking for two individuals for 8 weeks during the summer of 2014 for an internship position. 

Responsibilities

  • The role of this position is to complete annual reviews of the sustainability performance of publicly traded companies held in our global equity strategy.  
  • This internship will provide you an opportunity to learn about our sustainability investment criteria, and how to apply the criteria when evaluating companies. 
  • Past interns have reported having a very positive experience and that the position provided the opportunity to gain real world experience in evaluating what companies (across a wide range of industries) are doing to address sustainable development issues.

Qualifications                       

  • Strong interest in informed investing, considering ecological and social risk
  • Experience and familiarity with environmental sustainability concepts
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student majoring in
    Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Environmental Economics or related fields. 
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Access and Office)
  • Strong research and analysis skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Can effectively work independently
  • Ability to work on-site in our Portland, Oregon offices
  • 40 hours per week for 8 weeks over the summer, desired start date June 16th
