Earthjustice is a nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to protecting the magnificent places, natural resources, and wildlife of this earth and to defending the right of all people to a healthy environment. We bring about far-reaching change by enforcing and strengthening environmental laws on behalf of hundreds of organizations and communities.
Earthjustice's Oakland Regional Office in California seeks a Research Associate to assist its lawyers in environmental litigation and to implement its regional campaign, Healthy Cities, Healthy Wildlands primarily by supporting air quality casework.
Responsibilities include the investigation, interpretation and presentation of factual and technical information to support lawsuits, along with more programmatic issue tracking, client outreach and media work.
Qualifications include
(1) BA/BS or MS/MA in related field (environmental, natural or applied sciences);
(2) relevant coursework and experience;
(3) strong demonstrated interest in environmental protection;
(4) excellent written and oral communication skills;
(5) confidence in tackling complex scientific or technical issues and undertaking data analysis;
(6) attention to detail;
(7) organizational skills; and
(8) ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Air quality experience preferred.
This is a three-year position; salary is 36K, plus excellent benefits, including three weeks paid vacation.
Desired start date is early to mid-May 2005.
