The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), a leading national nonprofit research organization based in Washington, D.C., seeks a qualified Research Analyst to join ACEEE's Buildings team. ACEEE is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1980 that acts as a catalyst to advance energy efficiency policies, programs, technologies, investments, and behaviors.
Position Overview:
ACEEE seeks a Research Analyst for its Buildings Program. The position provides a balance of research, analysis and technical advocacy on a broad range of issues related to energy efficiency in commercial and residential buildings. Working at ACEEE, the Analyst will lead projects that have real-world impacts in improving the efficiency of building systems and equipment.
A typical day for an Analyst may start with a public meeting at the Department of Energy to advocate for an upcoming appliance efficiency standard and an afternoon spent collaborating on the buildings analysis for a state policy study and working with national experts to develop the agenda for one of ACEEE's highly regarded conferences. ACEEE and the Buildings Program are comprised of a highly motivated and collegial team, making for a pleasant working environment.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to conduct careful analysis and manage multiple, simultaneous projects; be self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively; have strong writing and verbal communications skills as well as computer and quantitative analysis skills; and enjoy the challenge of working as part of a dynamic and growing organization.
Responsibilities:
- Lead research and analysis on studies evaluating new technologies, programs, policies and practices to advance energy efficiency in commercial and residential buildings
- Support analysis and stakeholder engagement with the Department of Energy appliance and commercial equipment standards rulemaking process
- Develop buildings sector analysis for state policy studies on energy efficiency potential
- Communicate research findings and expertise to the media and other external parties
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree strongly preferred. Degree, rigorous coursework, or work experience in building science, energy and environmental policy, and/or engineering required, interest in building simulation valued;
- 3-5 years of work experience with demonstrated project management experience;
- Experience with or sound knowledge of building systems and equipment, energy efficiency, and related policy
Preferred Start Date: On or about October 1, 2012
