Position Overview:

The Renewable Energy Engineer functions as a technical specialist or in a lead role. With minimal supervision, he/she will support the performance of renewable energy projects covering multiple technologies with particular emphasis on energy storage.

The position will involve a wide variety of diverse assignments including technology assessment, due diligence, siting, feasibility studies, new technology evaluation, project proposal evaluation, market assessments, strategic planning, policy evaluation, and pro forma economic analysis.

The position will entail interaction with clients including utilities, energy project developers, financial institutions, energy end-users, investors, government agencies, and other organizations.

Responsibilities:

Essential responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and contribute to authorship of reports, studies, and proposals.
  • Develop technical and economic analyses of projects and technologies using models built in Microsoft Excel, PS/SE,PS/LF or other electrical system study models.
  • Coordinate work with others in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Identify and understand client issues, and work collaboratively to develop and communicate creative solutions.
  • Assess regulatory, technical, and market issues to evaluate competitive dynamics of various resource options.
  • Manage data and prepare periodic analysis updates.
  • Perform research including literature reviews, telephone calls, and internet-based research.
  • The position could also include exposure to other renewable technologies, such as biomass, solar, wind, geothermal, hydro, etc. 

Qualifications:

Minimum

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience with solar energy and energy storage projects.  
  • Understanding of function of RTO/ISO is required.

Preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly through formal reports, presentations, memoranda and email. 
  • Must be able to function equally well in collaborative, multi-discipline teams, and self-directed independent assignments.
  • Must be self-motivated, with an ability to balance multiple projects while working under tight deadlines.
  • Must have experience with electrical system design and/or modeling. It would be beneficial to have an interest in all renewable energy technologies.
  • Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel. PS/SE, PS/LF, PSCAD are strongly preferred.
  • Ability to develop Visual Basic macros preferred. 
  • Specialty computer skills including GIS, database design, scheduling, Monte Carlo analysis preferred, but not required.
  • Fundamental knowledge of economic analysis.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills.
  • Masters degree or MBA would be beneficial. 
  • Some course work on energy systems.
