Position Overview

AST is looking for a Renewable Energy Analyst to provide comprehensive technical energy analysis of hydro-power issues and support the Water Office in planning and management of applied research and development programs in the hydro-power space. The position will assist DOE personnel with the development of technical analyses needed for program planning meetings and other industry liaison work.

As directed by DOE Program Staff, this position will develop analytic tasks that provide technical background, data compilations, or straw-man technical proposals for the Office.

This position will develop papers and presentations to assist DOE Staff in the communication of technical and program knowledge both within DOE and external to outside stakeholders. The Program may also require analytical support that includes market research and analysis, financial analysis and modeling, policy analysis, and economic analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Support the federal Hydropower Program Manager in the development of short and long-term goals and objectives pertaining to a technology development portfolio for advancing the deployment of hydropower in the U.S.
  • Engage with hydropower industry stakeholders on an appropriate level to ensure needs and gaps are being addressed where possible at the Federal level.
  • Assist with performance monitoring, documentation, and progress assessment of currently funded R&D projects.
  • Make recommendations on system development, improvements, optimization, and support efforts.
  • Assist in the development of internal briefing materials for decision makers, and contribute technical review of external communications.

Qualifications 

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in business administration, statistics, or computer science.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven success working in a multi-disciplinary environment where teamwork is essential.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of hydropower project technologies and operations.

Desired Experience:

  • Experience with the Department of Energy and/or the Wind and Water Power Technologies Office.
  • An ability to effectively communicate the nuances of the hydropower industry and catalyze the spaces ripe for innovation and change is desired.
  • Ability to actively manage and monitor multi-million-dollar government-funded research and development projects.
  • The candidate will be expected to successfully represent the program status to senior government officials, congressional stakeholders, academia, and industry partners.
  • Experience with federal government contracting and or prior experience with hydropower technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience related to electric power systems, grid operations, and the role of ancillary services as they related to hydropower operations is a plus.
