Position Overview:
The ideal candidate will possess experience in regulatory affairs and will have strong business acumen, including an interest and belief in WGES' business objectives and products. The position will support the Company's retail electricity and natural gas regulatory activities in the jurisdictions where the company maintains retail licenses.
While reporting to the Director of Regulatory and Legislative Affairs, you will work closely with the Company's legal, operations, marketing, sales, renewable energy, and customer service staff. The ideal candidate will be able to think critically, ask probing questions, complete tasks thoroughly and demonstrate attention to detail. To be successful in this role, you will need to be self- motivated, proactive, and follow through to ensure the necessary steps are taken to produce a high quality product.
Responsibilities:
The Regulatory Affairs Specialist will champion regulatory efforts by:
Having primary responsibility for identifying, monitoring and ensuring the Company's compliance with all, state and local government regulatory requirements:
- Monitor developments in the regulatory environment that apply to and affect licensed retail electric and natural gas suppliers in D.C., Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. This includes regulations that govern environmental compliance, retail supplier sales activity, customer contracts, customer credit, customer privacy and disclosure, and any other relevant matters.
- Establish and maintain a database of all regulations and utility tariff provisions.
- Work with key staff to draft required compliance reports and file approved reports with relevant regulatory agencies by the required deadlines.
- Establish and implement an internal review process to ensure that all sales and marketing materials, including all direct mail solicitations, door-to-door sales materials, contract terms and conditions, customer disclosure statements, renewal letters, Company website, and the like, comply with all applicable regulations.
- Communicate regularly with key marketing and sales staff to remain current with marketing campaign schedules.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years direct experience in regulatory affairs, including regulatory monitoring, tracking and reporting. Experience working on energy issues is a plus.
- BA/BS degree in public policy, political science, or related field. Paralegal experience is a plus.
- Strong process-orientation with outstanding organizational skills and the utmost attention to detail.
- Superior interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and to successfully execute complex process-oriented tasks while making appropriate business decisions.
- High-energy team player with the ability to define priorities and work independently.
- Strong follow-through and sense of ownership, along with an aptitude for building successful relationships with employees of all levels.
- Ability to self-motivate and maintain a positive attitude while performing in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
