Description
The Reed Canarygrass (RCG) Field Assistant will assist with a research project designed to advance understanding of best management practices for controlling reed canarygrass (Phalaris arundinacea). The RCG Field Assistant will assist with the ecological assessments of reed canarygrass abundance and native wetland community changes (the actual treatments will be applied by site management personnel).
Specifically, position will collect vegetation monitoring data in the field and input data on hand held computers. Position requires working as part of a team.
A high school diploma or GED is required, plus related college course work in the natural sciences and at least one field season of relevant work experience -or- no course work and at least two field seasons of relevant work experience. An ability to identify wetland plant species is preferred.
Applicants must be willing and able to work outdoors under variable weather conditions. Applicants must provide their own transportation (travel costs will be reimbursed). The majority of the Field Assistant's time will be spent working in the field at study sites near Eugene and Portland, Oregon.
The Reed Canarygrass Field Assistant is a part-time non-exempt position supervised by the Reed Canarygrass Field Ecologist. The position will begin May 1, 2002, and end September 30, 2002. The RCG Field Assistant will be paid $8.00/hour on an hourly basis, and is expected to work on an intermittent basis, 3 days/week, generally every other week. Housing will not be provided.
