The Environmental Management Department manages the disposal of solid waste for the County in compliance with the S.C. Solid Waste Policy and Management Act of 1991 and the County of Charleston's Solid Waste Management Plan. This department has also developed educational and operational programs to inform communities about proper solid waste disposal practices and procedures. Contained within the department are divisions devoted to specific tasks, including collection, disposal, environmental enforcement, recycling and educational programs.
Position Overview:
The Environmental Management (EM) Department is seeking a qualified professional for this highly visible marketing and planning position. Under the direction of the Recycling Programs Manager, the Recycling Programs Coordinator is responsible for designing, developing and implementing promotional and educational campaigns for Charleston County's solid waste and recycling education programs. Excellent organizational and communication skills (written and verbal) are required in order to plan, prepare, and disseminate information within the community.
The successful candidate will use his/her creative abilities, skills and experience to: design advertisements; write press releases; create brochures and other promotion materials; and prepare and deliver presentations to civic groups, public organizations and the community. The position interacts with EM staff to assist with projects and ensure that work is scheduled and completed in a timely manner with an emphasis on analyzing and maintaining reports.
Qualifications:
To perform the diverse tasks required of this position, a wide range of skills is necessary such as: knowledge of waste reduction and recycling techniques; ability to establish and maintain records regarding recycling and MSW generation and collection; ability to work as a team to effectively present information to the public; and proficiency with computers and applicable software (Microsoft Office Suite). A Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Business Administration, or related field with 3 or more years experience in solid waste management programs is preferred. Valid driver's license indicating a clean DMV record required. Candidates selected for an interview will be required to submit various samples of their work.
