Position Summary

Portland Community College is recruiting for a team-oriented individual passionate about reducing waste to join the college's district sustainability team and advance the department's important work.

Under the direction of the Sustainability Manager, the Recycling Coordinator oversees the college's recycling and other waste reduction programs including coordinating hauling services, managing outreach and researching and implementing new programs.

Additionally, the position supports sustainability and waste reduction goals by leading recycling and waste reduction training, coordinating behavior change efforts, and developing curriculum to support program needs. The Recycling Coordinator participates in a variety of internal and external committees and represents the college and program at events, conferences and meetings.

This position also assists the Sustainability team with a variety of district-wide projects and programs and plays a leadership role in implementing future initiatives in line with the college's Climate Action Plan and Strategic Plan.

Candidate Profile

These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position. Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications:

  • Demonstrated team player with ability to collaborate and communicate with people across differences.
  • Applied experience managing waste reduction, recycling and compost programs, including data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to develop effective outreach and training materials as well as give presentations and write reports appropriate for the audience.
  • Informed about behavior change strategies, tools or community-based social marketing.
  • Ability to frame and integrate social equity and sustainability considerations into projects and programs.
  • Experience leading and overseeing volunteers, interns or staff.
  • Experience leading committee or work groups and in facilitating inclusive meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked.):

  • Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental, Physical, or Social Sciences or related field (experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year for year basis).
  • One year of professional level experience in an area of sustainability, environmental studies, waste management, or
  • Related field to include program coordination or development.

Compensation

  • Starting salary expectations are $44,448 to $47,615 (Step 3)
  • This is based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
