TurboFab, a facility of Solar Turbines, specializes in the fabrication of generator and turbine platforms, as well as pipe spooling, process skid and turbine base assembly, painting, testing, electrical assembly, and instrumentation.

TurboFab is a fully-integrated, wholly-owned fabrication and machining facility located just east of Houston along the Carpenter's Bayou Barge Canal in Channelview, Texas. TurboFab fabricates many products for both Solar Turbines and Caterpillar, in taking great advantage of its 1200 feet of waterfront access and 50-acre state-of-the-art facility. Some of the products presently produced by TurboFab include: Turbine package bases for all Solar product lines, Large single lift module systems - weighing up to 1000 tons each, Skid-mounted fuel treatment systems, Process equipment skids, Pipe valve skids and Caterpillar power generation package containers.

Position Overview:

Objective:

This position is accountable for the overall quality of the in process inspection and approval of base production, finished product and materials on projects and assemblies for conformance to specifications and standards.  This includes the responsibility of insuring both internal and customer discrepancy notices are written and processed and corrective actions verified.

Nature and Scope:

This position reports to Manager Quality TurboFab/Construction Services.  The focus of this position is to perform inspections of production work operations and materials on projects and assemblies for conformance to specifications and standards with traditional QC measurement devices and digital coordinated measuring equipment.  This includes inspecting various types of tooling including jigs, fixtures and dies.  Develop work instructions to improve fabrication process flows that lead to improved product quality. Responsibility for insuring internal discrepancies and Customer quality issues are identified, responses provided and verification formally completed.

Responsibilities:

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Comply with all of TurboFab's Environmental, Health and Safety Programs, Regulations and Guidelines.
  • Plan and interpret inspection procedures, sequence setup, and the mathematical computations required from engineering design prints, drawings and work orders.
  • Setup, calibrate and operate digital coordinate measuring equipment.
  • Verify acceptable products, reject unacceptable items, and confirm fabrication process required.
  • Determine and perform precision measurements to validate production assembly tooling setup for product fabrication and to achieve alignments between fabricated components.
  • Provide manufacturing and inspection capabilities of tooling and fixtures by making first run inspection on parts and assemblies, present data to Quality Assurance for the purpose of establishing standards and procedures, and verify certification of measurement equipment.
  • Perform process inspection of product and operations during fabrication and assembly.
  • Lead the effort to insure internal discrepancy notices for the base area are collected, categorized, resolved and communicated to TurboFab employees.
  • Assist in writing, issuing and implementing work procedures including process expectations and accountabilities for the TurboFab shop area.
  • Ownership of all responses to external Customers on quality issues.
  • Assist in evaluating quality of workers in the base shop area.
  • Recommend quality process changes to insure quality products are produced at TurboFab.
  • Assist in improving record keeping of quality issues and developing programs to improve overall quality in the base shop area.

Qualifications:

Knowledge:

  • Must have CWI certification current
  • Must have 5 years of Certified Welding Inspector experience.
  • Must be NDE Certified (i.e. VT, MT, PT, RT, VT, LT)
  • In depth knowledge of blueprint writing.
  • In depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
  • Strong understanding of computers, Excel, Word, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD), prefer AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge and use of inspection tools.
  • Must be able to write or modify welding procedures.
  • Must have Radiograph interpretation per (ASME/ AWS/ API codes) experience.
  • Must have experience in Performing P& ID walk downs.
  • Must have 5 plus years of experience as a welder (Pipe & Structural) Preferred certified welder.
  • Prefer a college degree.

Compensation: $28.00 - $34.00 (Hourly Wage)
