Description

Northwatch is a non-profit organization operating across northeastern Ontario.

Duties:

To work with the public and local groups interested in learning about forests and the environment.

As a project team member you will:

  • provide direct educational and information support to members of Local Citizens Commitees and the public interested or
    engaged in the forest management planning process
  • provide policy and planning support to members of Local Citizens Commitees and the public interested or engaged in
    the forest management planning process
  • deliver networking, information-sharing and educational opportunities to members of Local Citizens Commitees and the
    public interested or engaged in the forest management planning process
  • work with others to develop local support in the plan process for biodiversity objectives
  • attend local citizens committees meetings as per workplan
  • work with other team members to deliver least 3 local workshops each year throughout region
  • work with other team members to hold a stand-alone regional workshop on forest management planning each year
  • respond to information requests promptly, in consultation with other project team members where necessary
  • establishing contact with local citizens committees active in planning process with districts each project team member
    has "lead" responsibility for
  • be the Project's primary outreach contact for the Cochrane, Timmins and Hearst Districts

Qualifications:

  • must be able to work independently and enjoy working with a broad variety of interests.
  • based in Timmins area.
  • some
    travel required.
  • sound understanding of the forest management planning process
  • related practical experience
  • excellent communication and organizational skills
  • experience in adult/public education
  • familiarity with the structure and operating style of both the Ministry of Natural Resources and the forest industry
  • an understanding of forest science and forest policy in Ontario
  • existing network of contacts in the northeastern Ontario
  • bilingual English/French or English / Ojibway or English / Cree
  • access to a
    vehicle and a valid driver's license are required.

Terms:

  • Location: Timmins / Cochrane / Hearst Area
  • This is a contract position.
  • Remuneration does not include a benefits package or CPP or EI contributions.
