Description

Background:

The Public Affairs Intern will work in the Development and Public Affairs
Department of TPLs Mid-Atlantic region, assisting with a variety of public
affairs activities ranging from administrative tasks to writing functions. This is
a part-time, unpaid internship (approximately 10 to 15 hours per week on a
flexible schedule), and a great opportunity for individuals interested in
gaining experience in public affairs, open space/land conservation, and/or
nonprofit operations.

Current graduate or undergraduate students seeking a
credit-based internship will also be considered.

Duties:

Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining and updating the regions media database including contact
    information and notes on press received.
  • Receiving, archiving and distributing press clippings, both hard and
    electronic copies.
  • Distributing press releases and coordinating their posting to the TPL
    website.
  • Representing the work of the Trust for Public Land in the Mid-Atlantic region
    through written materials, including web page content, fact sheets and press
    releases. Enhancing the web site and keeping it current as a valuable
    resource and tool for partners and supporters.
  • Creating and managing an archive for TPL reports and publications.
  • Assisting with the Mid-Atlantic regions public affairs efforts, both internal
    and external, as opportunities and needs arise.

Qualifications:

  • B.A. preferred; current undergraduate students with relevant experience
    will be considered.
  • Excellent writing, research, organizational and computer skills required.
    Experience working with Act 2000, Fax Press and Burrelles Info Office a
    plus, but not required.
  • Experience writing for the web and familiarity with environmental issues
    desirable but not required.
