Mattamy Homes is seeking a proven and passionate leader to help us develop our strategy to build communities which will place us at the leading edge of delivering environmentally friendly communities. 

Mattamy Homes Mattamy began operating in the late 1970's, building custom residences along the lakeshore in Burlington, Ontario. In the intervening years, Mattamy has grown to become the largest home builder in Canada, developing not just houses but complete, integrated communities. Today, the scope of operations encompasses land acquisition, community design & development, housing and parkland design & construction with particular emphasis on creating communities of enduring value to residents. 

Mattamy has grown from building 700 homes in the Greater Toronto area in 1996 to closing over 3400 homes per year in the same region. With expected growth of 30% over the next five years, Mattamy expects to build over 5,000 homes per year in the GTA. 

In 2006, JD Power ranked Mattamy Homes number one among homebuilders in the Greater Toronto Area for total homebuyer satisfaction. They intend to enhance this reputation by continuing to build more environmentally friendly homes and communities. 

The Opportunity: Reporting to the President, Central Canada, the individual will be accountable, as Project Manager, for managing all aspects of developing a Green Strategy for Mattamy Homes. This will be a 3 to 6 month consulting assignment with the possibility of permanent employment depending on the outcomes of the project. 

Goal of the Project: Develop a Green Building Strategy for Mattamy Homes by October 1, 2007. 

Major Steps: 

1. Consolidate all learning's to date from Mattamy's experience with the green demonstration homes in Milton.

2. Internal survey of people in key positions at Mattamy

3. What does the market say?

- Environmental Scan (Strategic) 
- Market Research (Getting specific answers) - Competitive analysis - Focus groups (what does our target market understand/want from Green) - What's happening in other geographic markets? - Municipal research into recycling, hydro etc - Identify ways to engineer energy efficiencies into manufactured components for houses.

4. What are the implications for Mattamy?
-  Major issues 
-  Establish alternatives (This could include a tiered offering where buyer can buy upgrades from a basic program) 
- Facilitate discussion, building consensus

5. Establish final recommendations: Outline a 3 year strategy with:
A. Define what "Green Home Community Lifestyle" will mean for both low-rise and high-rise construction
B. Implementation plan
C. Complete financial and market risk analysis 

Project Support:  The project will be guided by Steering Committee composed of senior executive stakeholders.  The Project Manager will be supported by a cross functional team who have knowledge and interest in this area. 

Person Spec: 

While there are many operational success factors to the role, project success can only be achieved if the Project Manager is comfortable with, and can operate effectively at, a strategic level in time horizons of three to five years.

The individual should possess the following attributes and experience: 

* Proven strategic planning skills learned in a major corporation, preferably multi division
* Exposure to a businesses in highly regulated and politically sensitive industries:  Land development; Municipalities; Automotive; Hospitals; Telecommunications 
* Knowledge of consumer buying behaviors in big ticket consumer products
* Corporate executive experience and comfort in the "Board Room"
* Superb project management skills, both capital intensive and strategic 
* Proven capacity to build relationships and elicit cooperation from people who have many priorities 
* Passion for and experience in introducing practical environmentally friendly approaches into a construction or manufacturing business environment.
* 8 to 10 years of experience with significant corporate experience and ideally some consulting experience with a strategy firm 
* Business or engineering degree supported by an MBA
