Description
~ New Jersey Conservation Foundation was formed in 1960 as the Great Swamp Committee. ~
Within a few years, a small group of citizens successfully fought a plan by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to build the region's fourth major airport in the middle of the ecologically-critical Great Swamp near Morristown.
This fight led to the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge -New Jersey's first National Wildlife Refuge, and the first federally-designated wilderness east of the Mississippi.
From our Great Swamp roots, New Jersey Conservation Foundation emerged as a strong advocate for land and an effective land conservancy.
During the last 50 years, we have preserved more than 120,000 acres, including many that are now federal, state, county or local parks, using every legal means available for land protection to achieve conservation goals. We also pioneered the use of conservation easements in New Jersey as a land-saving tool.
Position Overview
New Jersey Conservation Foundation seeks a part-time Project Manager for acquisition and preservation of open space, farmland and greenways in Central New Jersey.
Qualifications
Applicant experience should include:
- Conservation real estate transactions;
- Government public agency relations;
- Securing public & private conservation funding;
- Working with land partners & supporters;
- Fundraising and/or grassroots organizing experience a plus; and
- Knowledge of central New Jersey area and geography desirable.
Qualifications include:
- BS in urban planning; natural resource management or a related field.
- Office based in the central Jersey area with some travel required.
