McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) is seeking candidates to fill the position of Project Manager. 

Description of project management responsibilities: 

Supporting MBDC's Cradle to Cradle Certification program will be a large emphasis for all Project Managers 

Responsible for coordinating and organizing the day-to-day progress of projects with select MBDC clients. This may include any of the following activities: identifying and prospecting for new clients; developing project proposals which define scope of project objectives, budget and estimated timelines; track and maintain project budgets and timelines and staff resources required; provide written updates to clients; brief senior staff on progress and issues of concern; manage and meet project deliverable deadlines; and write research summaries and papers for presentation to clients. 

Project Managers (PMs) need to be conversant about a wide array of environmentally related issues and scientific terms. PMs need to gain an understanding of basic chemistry and toxicology to collect information for material evaluations, interact with clients and their suppliers, reporting assessment results to clients. Project Managers interact daily with and support the data requirements of technical staff to conduct chemical and material assessments. Experience with chemical and toxicological databases is helpful. 

Project Managers are expected to familiarize themselves with the Cradle to Cradle Design paradigm and supporting concepts that MBDC has been developing for the past ten years. PMs need to be able to effectively communicate these concepts to current and future clients. 

Project Manager is the primary contact for clients for a specific project and is responsible for keeping clients fully informed about the status of that project. 

Project Managers need to be proficient at researching a diversity of issues (e.g., different industry sectors, manufacturing processes, material characteristics, recycling technologies, reverse logistics) in order to gain an understanding of how Cradle to Cradle Design may be used to promote more sustainable solutions for any particular industry. 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree. Relevant backgrounds - environmental science, environmental planning, chemistry, industrial ecology, industrial design, engineering (environmental, chemical, etc.). Three years of experience related to environmental or "sustainability" consulting. 

 

Desired Skills/Knowledge

Strong oral and written communication skills; functional knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access; effectively use the internet for research; Experience with client relations/account management; comfortable with public speaking, facilitating discussions or presenting to small and large groups; interest and basic understanding of concepts of sustainable product design, material toxicity, eco-labels, environmental metrics, Design for Environment, Industrial Ecology and life cycle thinking. Basic knowledge of environmental science/organic chemistry/toxicology. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree in any of fields noted above. Prefer applicants to have at five or more years of related project management work experience and a demonstrated interest in environment-related activities. Ability to interface with clients effectively and to be task oriented. 

Hire Date: Anticipated hire date: October/November 

Salary Range: $45,000 - $50,000 + depending on experience and qualifications
