Description

Greenopia is looking for enthusiastic researchers with green/environmental/nonprofit experience to be part of a dynamic temporary field research team covering the New York City area.

Greenopia is conducting research for its New York City edition of Greenopia: the urban dweller's guide to green living. Greenopia guides are published by The Green Media Company, LLC, a Santa Monica-based multimedia company serving up consumers a trusted, local directory to guide them where to eat, shop, and live green in their own neighborhood.

Time Commitment/Schedule: This is a temporary position requiring a commitment of an estimated 8-10 weeks, commencing January 4 (or sooner, depending on your availability). A one-day classroom training session and two to three days of supervised field training is mandatory. You must be able to attend training on January 4, 5 and/or 6 (split sessions available).

Job Responsibilities:

* Conduct field and phone/internet research to locate a variety of retailers, service businesses and organizations, complete questionnaires, and gather content to be used to qualify businesses for a Greenopia listing.
* Will be assigned to a specific zone within one of the five New York City Boroughs where you live and may be asked to pinch hit in other territories in the final phase of research.
* Will need to assess businesses based on stated Greenopia criteria and work with managers and business owners to help them complete a listing application and qualifying questionnaire. Follow-up required.
* Training and some leads will be provided. Will require conducting research on a "cold call" basis, so we are looking for people who are insightful, resourceful, and can see opportunities or find leads quickly.
* Will gather data on paper while in the field and will be required to submit research results weekly (and often daily) to an assigned Borough Chief (research coordinator).
* Will be required to attend weekly meetings with your assigned Borough Chief.
Skills/Job Requirements:

* Must have solid knowledge of the assigned territory.
* Green business or nonprofit experience or involvement with environmentally sustainable organizations or projects.
* This is a temporary position for the stated period.
* Full-time researchers must work 40 hours a week; part-time, at least 20-25 hours a week.
* Must be personable, a good communicator, and able to make a strong first impression.
* Must have excellent analytical ability and be well organized and detail-oriented.
* Must have excellent time management skills.
* Writing skills are a plus (this is a content gathering job).
* Must be able to take public transportation, bike and/or walk the streets as well as work by phone and by Internet.
*Must have own laptop/computer and Internet access from home or school. Access to fax machine or scanner preferred.
* Must have own landline or cell phone (flat fee or unlimited service).

Compensation: $520 per week (or prorated for part-time workers on the basis of $13/hr), plus up to a 20% completion bonus based on timeliness, quality of work and overall performance. Will reimburse up to $20/day for mileage (auto or bike), parking, tolls, public transportation, and cell phone service with documented receipts.
