Description
The 32BJ Thomas Shortman Training Fund, which provides training to 70,000 building service workers who are represented by Local 32BJ SEIU and who work in residential and commercial building markets from Washington, DC to Connecticut, is seeking a senior-level program director to develop and implement a new Green Building Initiative to expand and supplement our existing programming.
Position Overview:
The Initiative aims to train building service workers to implement energy efficiency and green building programs on a scale that can result in a meaningful increase in energy efficiency in the buildings where 32BJ members work, with an initial focus on the New York City residential market. The program should set a new standard for the property service industry, take advantage of the renewed public and private interest in energy efficiency, and aim for implementation on a large enough scale to have a measurable impact. The job is a project position planned to last 1 year initially.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements the Green Building Initiative, including securing of funding from public and private sources
- Evaluates job titles in the building service industry to identify and measure the potential impact of training programs and job skills on energy efficiency and develop ways to maximize that potential

- Works with Fund staff to expand existing green curriculum to ensure that building service workers can have the maximum impact on energy efficiency in each market in which 32BJ members work
- Monitors and analyzes federal, state and local legislative and regulatory activity as it pertains to green buildings; advocates in the legislative and regulatory process on behalf of training standards and programs for building service workers, working with Local 32BJ
- Develops and manages partnerships between Local 32BJ and employers to promote implementation of energy efficiency programs and the training and utilization of property service workers in those programs and to facilitate access to public subsidies for energy efficiency programs
- Participates in regional and national conferences of Environmental, Labor, Property Management and Governmental stakeholders to establish strategies and guidelines for training ‘green' property service workers

Core Competencies:
- Demonstrated ability to formulate and advocate for innovative policies
- Bachelor's Degree and/or 5+ years of strategic development, legislative and policy analysis and campaign implementation
- Significant experience in green/energy efficiency field
- Willingness to travel as needed
- Must be a self-starter who is able to collaborate with Labor and Management representatives to reach consensus on how best to develop a green training effort
