PCI-Media Impact's mission is to empower communities worldwide to inspire enduring change through creative story-telling. Media Impact is a leader in Entertainment- Education and social change communications.  As an independent, non-profit organization, for 25 years Media Impact has worked with local partners to produce programs that address the most pressing social and environmental issues. Using our unique My Community methodology, we engage and empower audiences around the world to improve their own lives. Together, we have produced more than 3,000 episodes of 100 TV and radio serial productions reaching more than 1 billion people in 34 countries. Media Impact's head office is in New York, USA, with staff in Bolivia, Ghana, Mexico, Peru and St. Lucia.

Position Overview:

Working closely with the Programs Director, the Programs Manager is responsible for supporting the regional managers, staff and partners, with a focus on Africa and Asia, to establish goals, work plans and budgets for national and regional programs; to support the implementation and delivery of programs; develop training curricula, and, participate at capacity development trainings. S/he will also support the codification of Media Impact's unique My Community approach to Communications for Social Change.

With a focus on Africa and Asia, s/he will contribute to managing strategic partnerships to develop, design, implement and produce current and new programming. The Programs Manager works closely with the Director of Programs in the development of new programs, indentify potential funding sources, and cultivate relationships with funding agencies.

Responsibilities:

Programs Overall Strategy and Support:

  • Work closely with the Director of Programs to develop concept papers, design new programs, identify potential funding partners, and cultivate relationships for program development.
  • Work closely with the Director of Programs to support the work plans and implementation of new programs worldwide.

Strategic Partnerships:

  • Support and work in close collaboration with the Program Officer in Ghana, and WCS partners in Nigeria, Cameroon and Laos to successfully implement these current programs.
  • Strengthen Media Impact's relationship with partners in Africa and Asia.
  • Work with the Programs Director to oversee the successful implementation of Media Impact's Africa and Asia programs. This includes participating in planning meetings, establishing work plans, communication and evaluation plans, and budgets.
  • Prepare and submit reports to the partners and funders as needed.
  • Identify and develop new partnerships.

Training and Capacity Development:

  • Work with regional and local teams to plan and organize training activities.
  • Develop curricula and provide capacity development services and mentoring to Media Impact partners.

Codification of Methodology and Tool Kits:

  • Work with all Media Impact team members to define a standardized articulation of the organization's vision, strategy and work.
  • Present Media Impact at universities, Entertainment-Education and communication conferences, forums, etc.

Additional tasks may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications:

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a Master's Degree in fields of communications, international development, Entertainment-Education, social marketing or other degree relevant to communications and development.
  • Very strong understanding of issues impacting developing countries, particularly around health, population, family planning, conservation and sustainable development.
  • 3-8 years of work experience in international development and communications for change.
  • Proven experience using communications strategies and tools to advance local, regional and international program objectives, including media relations, web/social media, print and events.
  • Proven success in being able to thrive in team environments, having a strong understanding of diversity and other cultures, and having built relationships over long distances.
  • Strong English-language skills required. French and/or Spanish a definite advantage.
  • Demonstrated success raising funds from individuals, foundations, US-government sources, UN agencies and/or through evolving social media and on-line opportunities. Demonstrated ability to manage solicitations, extensive proposal writing and reporting.
