The California Coastkeeper Alliance coordinates and supports the work of local California Waterkeeper programs in an effort to provide a statewide voice for safeguarding California's waters, and its world-renowned coast and ocean, for the benefit of all Californians and for California's future. The Alliance currently includes twelve Waterkeepers spanning the coast from the Oregon border to San Diego and into the Bay-Delta Estuary.

Position Overview:

The Programs Manager position will be responsible, under the supervision of the Executive Director, for developing and implementing a suite of substantive programs to improve the health of the state's waterways and its coastal and marine ecosystems.

Responsibilities:

  • Implementation of specific CCKA advocacy efforts related to: clean water and healthy waterway flows, marine ecosystem protection, effective ocean and coastal governance, coastal climate change adaptation, and other initiatives.
  • Development and presentation of detailed analyses, comments, memoranda and recommendations on advocacy issues, including regular oral testimony before state agencies and Legislative committees.
  • Coordination of multi-stakeholder advocacy coalitions of NGOs, fishing groups, and others.
  • Production of background information and outreach materials on the Alliance and its activities.
  • Assistance with administrative support, including preparation for and follow-up from CCKA Board meetings, and website content updating.
  • Fundraising support, including researching funding opportunities, preparing proposals, and drafting grant reports.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in environmental studies or policy or a related field, with at least 3 years of experience working in the environmental non-profit arena. Working familiarity with California water quality and/or marine protection issues strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to work independently, as well as in a team. Excellent organizational and writing skills. Motivated self-starter. Skilled at public speaking.
  • Some travel required, particularly to Sacramento as well as within California generally.
  • Fundraising and/or more advanced computer skills a plus.
