Earthwatch Institute is an international non-profit organization that supports scholarly field research worldwide in the biological, physical, and social sciences. Field research grant awards are derived from funds contributed by Earthwatch members who serve as volunteer participants on research projects. Volunteers are educated and motivated individuals who are recruited and screened by Earthwatch to meet scientists needs. To date, Earthwatch has supported over 2,800 research projects in 118 countries, with more than 65,000 volunteer field assistants contributing over $50 million in research grants.
Duties:
The position of Program Manager at Earthwatch Institute functions as a member of the Social Science team. The Program Manager works closely with the Social Science Program Director who develops projects, and with Expedition Coordinators, who manage the volunteer recruitment for each project.
The Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation and administration of field-based research projects within the Social Science program. The Program Manager is the primary liaison between Earthwatch Institute, Earthwatch-supported scientists (Principal Investigators), and Earthwatch international offices. The Program Manager is responsible for overseeing annual contract and budget negotiation for projects currently supported by Earthwatch Institute (EWI), project evaluation and progress toward research goals, grant disbursement, contract renewal, general health and safety procedures training, risk assessment, project logistics, timely submission of project material for EWI publications and other project management-related issues.
Qualifications:
Masters degree preferred and/or equivalent work experience. Candidates must have a background in the social sciences with work and/or field-related research experience. Candidates must have excellent organizational, financial and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a collegial, fast-paced setting. The ability to work in an environment with frequent shifting of deadlines and priorities is key.
Salary range: $30,000 - $35,000
