The Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) helps utilities, businesses and consumers reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by developing and supporting U.S. and Canadian initiatives to accelerate market adoption of advanced energy-efficient products and services.
Members of the Consortium include utilities, statewide and regional market transformation administrators, environmental groups, research organizations and state energy offices in the United States and Canada. Members serve more than one half of the U.S. and one third of the Canadian populations, and expend more than $2 billion annually on efficiency programs.
Position Overview:
Want to fight global climate change? CEE is seeking an enthusiastic individual to manage the development of emerging energy-efficiency initiatives for the Natural Gas Program and to maintain existing program efforts. The individual will be responsible for actively supporting CEE committees of energy efficiency program managers from across the country to enhance the effectiveness of natural gas efficiency programs.
The Natural Gas Program Manager will be tasked with identifying new areas of opportunity for natural gas savings and recommending a course of action to CEE's Natural Gas Committee. Knowledge of the HVAC industry is preferred but not required. The individual will also manage a Residential Space Heating Initiative by supporting energy-efficiency program administrators running rebate and incentive programs through facilitating discussions and information transfer. Increasing participation in the initiative throughout North America is a key goal in this area.
This position will require the ability to facilitate committee discussion via teleconference and in person, to research and understand the technical and economic potential of heating technologies, and to communicate recommendations effectively both orally and in writing. The ideal candidate will also have a general appreciation for decision-making processes.
The individual will be part of a Gas Program Team and report to the Senior Program Manager, Natural Gas.
Typical Responsibilities include:
- Facilitate regular committee meetings of utility, government, advocate and other stakeholders to develop, discuss and evaluate potential program opportunities (e.g. promoting condensing commercial boilers, seeking more efficient gas furnaces in rooftop packaged unitary systems, etc.). The Program Manager will work with the Senior Program Manager to create meeting agenda, present on research and facilitate committee work. Additional activities include convening meetings, generating meeting notes and following through with meeting action items
- Build consensus among CEE members and other stakeholders on approaches to accelerate market acceptance of energy-efficient products and services
- Assist in developing program plans containing assessments of current market conditions, savings opportunities, recommended strategies for affecting national markets and recommended approaches for inclusion in field implementation plans
- Recruit organizations to incorporate recommended approaches into their local program efforts
- Help build strategic alliances with key market players (e.g. manufacturers, distributors, associations, etc.) for improved initiative effectiveness
- Author professional papers
- Monitor relevant technology, market, policy, and other industry developments
- Assist in recruiting new members and promoting the merits of CEE
- Represent CEE in public settings
Qualifications:
- A graduate degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g. BA/BS including graduate coursework, honors thesis or significant applicable employment experience). Studies in engineering, economics, marketing, environmental policy or studies are preferred but not required.
- 2-3 years of relevant work experience in a professional work environment
- Demonstrated secondary research skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to understand market motivations and dynamics
- Strategic aptitude (e.g. the ability to recognize opportunities and craft appropriate responses)
- Ability to effectively work with groups and individuals to achieve consensus
- Ability to manage workload across multiple projects
- Ability to work independently
- Willingness to travel (averaging approximately one trip monthly)
