Position Overview: 

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company currently has an opening for a Global Product Stewardship Material - Program Manager on the Global Product Stewardship team at its Innovation Center in Akron, OH.

Global Product Stewardship is a new department responsible for environmental, health, safety and sustainability issues impacting Goodyear's products and use of materials. The Global Product Stewardship team is a part of the progressive Global EHS Sustainability organization.

Responsibilities: 

  • Monitors development and assesses the potential impact of external drivers for material sustainability and green chemistry.
  • Develops temporal horizons defining regulatory, social, and market expectations from current and projected sustainability drivers.
  • Prioritizes raw material substitution strategies based on sustainability horizons that define regulatory, social, and market expectations.
  • Supports a portfolio of projects and R&D teams in the development of sustainable materials and products.
  • Engages in advocacy with external policy-makers as needed and provides ongoing awareness of "Green" Product Stewardship to leadership and associates.   

Qualifications: 

Education:

Degree should be Material Science, Sustainability Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Chemistry, or a related field. 

  • BS degree, with a minimum of 10 years of experience. 
  • Or a MS degree with a minimum of 5 years experience. 
  • Or, Ph.D. degree, minimum of 3 years of experience. 
  • Applied research in the areas of material sustainability or chemical environmental fate and transport preferred.  

Experience: 

  • Should be in a Material Development or EHS field.
  • Experience in material development and/or product design.
  • Expert knowledge of material or environmental sciences and a strong knowledge of chemistry.
  • Solid communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to transition technical information into information that can be utilized by the business community.
  • Ability to develop, support and implement organizational strategies.
  • Proven influence skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships.
  • Ability to think and interface at a global level.
  • Ability to understand government regulations and translate them into business processes.
  • Ability to make decisions with little precedence or guidance. Self-motivated.
  • Solid computer skills.
  • Industry experience in a sustainable material development, or EHS compliance. Experience with REACH, TSCA, and CEPA preferred.
  • Knowledge of LCA preferred.
  • Breadth of technical knowledge.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
