Founded in 1990, Valley Conservation Council is a member-supported land trust and citizens organization promoting land use that sustains the farms, forests, open spaces and cultural heritage of the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia.

Valley Conservation Council (VCC) seeks a full-time Program Manager to coordinate a growing portfolio of projects in the Shenandoah and Upper James River watersheds in Virginia.

Position Overview:

The program manager will work closely with a small team to manage and develop resource conservation and development projects and assist with other duties in this growing land conservation organization. Strong background in nonprofits, project and grant management, land or resource conservation, or agriculture is desired. Position is based in historic Staunton, Virginia with travel throughout the region.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate projects for resource conservation and development
  • Manage grants and contracts
  • Promote land conservation and better development in the Shenandoah Valley
  • Serve as staff liaison to several board committees
  • Assist in the publication of newsletter, online presence, and other materials
  • Participate in meetings, conferences, and educational events including occasional nights and weekends away
  • Assist other staff and board members with fundraising and membership development
  • Assist with other programs and priorities as needed

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have several years of nonprofit experience and demonstrate a wide range of attributes, experience and skills that could include:

  • Experience and training in rural development, forestry, agriculture, land conservation, land use planning,or related field
  • Experience in non-profit organizations preferred
  • Effective written and spoken communication skills, including experience with grant applications, press releases, and public presentations
  • Management of complex projects and professional relationships
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently within VCC's service region and beyond
  • Experience supervising staff, interns and volunteers.
  • Bachelor's degree (master's preferred) and 5 years work experience in a related field.
  • Strong computer and Web 2.0 skills
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • GIS and GPS experience a plus

Compensation: This is a full-time, salaried position. VCC offers a modest benefits package and a flexible work environment. Salary commensurate with experience.
