Description

One of the world's largest and most experienced international education and training organizations, the Institute of International Education (IIE) promotes closer educational relations between the people of the United States and other countries. 

Position Overview:

IIE is currently seeking a Program Director to manage and coordinate a major fellowship initiative to advance sustainability around the globe. Provide thought leadership and develop linkages between fellows and participating institutions, convene meetings, workshops and conferences to advance program goals; coordinate alumni programming; develop effective social networking tools to link program participants; communicate program results and impact; and manage the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of program achievements.

Responsibilities:

  • In close cooperation with the sponsor and program participants, provide thought leadership to advance sustainability and develop actionable solutions to environmental challenges through a global fellowship program.
  • Develop and implement a plan that creates program synergies and advances program goals, including developing linkages within the program by theme and region.
  • Help to promote Fellows as leaders within the scientific community.
  • Maintain close communication and collaboration with other program participants to advance program goals.
  • Organize regular meetings of program partners; serve as Secretariat to the Program Council that will advise the program.
  • Organize fellowship program events and conferences in locations around the globe.
  • Provide content and logistical support to workshops and others meetings with responsibility for overseeing the organization of international travel, venues, development of conference materials, etc.
  • Formulate and implement an alumni program plan that will further supplement and advance program goals and collaboration possibilities.
  • Help advance other Institute programs in the environment and sustainability field and perform other services as required.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree or equivalent training and experience.
  • Expertise in a field related to the environment and sustainability.
  • Minimum 7 - 10 years of progressively responsible management experience in the environmental and sustainability field. International experience highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the international environmental and sustainability sector. Experience in applied sustainability, life-cycle analysis, and/or climate change and energy preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize international conferences and events.
  • Experience designing and implementing communication plans and managing program evaluations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communications skills.
  • Ability to manage financial information and prepare budgets and financial reports.
