Background:

Friends of the Potomac (FOP) is a membership-based nonprofit organization that assists communities throughout the Potomac River Basin in their efforts to conserve natural resources and create new business opportunities. FOP serves three primary stakeholder groups ? nonprofits, local governments, and business and agriculture. FOP offers workshops, seminars, hands-on training, and a variety of outreach services in areas such as leadership development, brownfields and community redevelopment, drinking water protection, and organization capacity development.

Summary of Position:

The Program Director is a full time position with the opportunity to create and implement innovative community-based programs in the Potomac River Basin. The Director will work with the Executive Director in developing and directing all Friends of the Potomac programs, including resource and fund development. In addition, the Director will be responsible for the day-to-day management of all FOP programs and activities. The position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day activities of all FOP programs and projects, including membership development and outreach efforts;
  • Assist Executive Director in planning and implementing program fund development;
  • Organize and implement community workshops throughout the Potomac Basin. Subject areas include brownfield and community redevelopment; drinking water protection; sustainable development; leadership development; capacity development;
  • Coordinate federal resources and technical assistance to watershed groups and local communities;
  • Assist communities and organizations in developing sound project proposals and securing resources to implement locally led projects and initiatives;
  • Develop networking and partnership opportunities among communities, agencies, organizations, and businesses;
  • Develop partnership opportunities with other local and regional nonprofit organizations.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years nonprofit experience at the Program Director level or higher;
  • Advanced degree, preferably in Environmental Policy, Business Administration, Sustainable Development, Environmental Science, or Natural Resource Management;
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement projects and programs independently with little supervision;
  • Excellent analytical and organizational abilities;
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities;
  • Proven fundraising track record a plus;
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multi-stakeholder setting;
  • Commitment to the goals and mission of Friends of the Potomac.

Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000 annual, plus benefits
