Environmental Leadership Program Program Coordinator/Manager New Haven, CT
The Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to training and supporting a new generation of environmental leaders from a diverse array of cultural backgrounds, disciplines, and sectors. In 1999 ELP launched a unique Fellowship Program that provides training, mentoring, and funding for innovative projects to 25 emerging environmental leaders per year. In 2004, ELP developed a new regional network in Philadelphia and began the groundwork for a second to be launched in Boston in 2005.
The Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) seeks an energetic, creative and detail-oriented individual to plan and implement ELP's Regional Networks, work collaboratively with ELP Fellowship staff to ensure cross-program learning, and help coordinate ELP's diversity work.
Job Responsibilities
Plan and implement ELP's Regional Networks:
1) Outreach
o Recruit, convene, and work closely with planning committee and advisors to build broad based support for Regional Networks.
o Help design and implement a broad based recruitment strategy to recruit a diverse group of Associates to participate in the Regional Network Training Series for Emerging Leaders.
o Help design an outreach plan to ensure success of Regional Network events.
o Meet with leaders of prominent organizations in the regions to share information about ELP, Regional Networks, and opportunities we offer to their groups.
2) Selection
o Coordinate, lead, and recruit participants for a Selection Committee to select Associates to participate in Regional Networks' Training Series for Emerging Leaders.
o Help develop selection criteria/rubric for Associates, working with fellowship manager to build on fellowship developments.
o Develop a selection process and timeline selecting Associates.
o Create Training Series agreements to be signed by accepted Associates.
o Develop additional selection materials.
3) Trainings/Events
o Participate in planning and execution of Regional Network Training Series retreats, networking events, Regional Forums, and other programs.
o Assist with Training Series curriculum development, refinement, and implementation o Recruit and orient facilitators and trainers for Training Series and work with financial administrators to finalize contracts.
4) Pods
o Help Associates form small groups (pods) that work together throughout the program. o Lead staff work to determine goals of pods, assignments, etc.
o Provide guidance to pods, both at retreats and via the web site and other materials.
o Communicate with pods to ensure they are meeting regularly and accomplishing goals.
5) Personal Leadership Plans
o Guide the process of Associates' Personal Leadership Plans (PLPs) drafting, feedback, and revisions.
o Coordinate peer/staff feedback goals and process. o Track the process for the completion PLPs.
6) Activity Fund
o Lead the process for determining specific goals of Regional Network Activity Fund (AF).
o Write materials and provide guidance to Associates on the goals of the AF and ensure associates are given sufficient guidance and support for drafting AF proposals.
o Manage Regional Network AF Committee. o Write summaries of AF descriptions for use in ELP communications.
7) Communications:
o Serve as primary contact for associates and keep them informed about other aspects of ELP's work and upcoming events.
o Write public communications and outreach materials on the Regional Networks working with ELP Communications Team.
o Write content for associates-only part of web site and develop online surveys.
o Develop and monitor Associate listservs.
8) Development
o Work with development team, as necessary, on foundation fundraising and relationship building.
o Assist development team with foundation reports and proposals for funding Regional Networks.
o Work with development team on fundraisers, donor solicitations, and other fundraising activities focused on Regional Networks.
Work collaboratively with the Fellowship Program Manager to ensure cross-program learning.
Help coordinate ELP's diversity work in the context of an organization- and staff-wide effort to integrate ELP's diversity mission into its internal processes and external programs: o Participate in and help coordinate ELP's Diversity Committee of board and staff, and serve on staff Diversity team. o Contribute to specific diversity-related projects within the Regional Networks and Fellowship programs.
Desired Qualifications
* Significant experience in project management.
* Significant experience with event planning and coordination.
* Facilitation, public speaking, and small grants administration skills a plus.
* Knowledge and experience in leadership development and training a plus.
* Skilled at group dynamics and comfortable working in diverse groups, specifically across race, gender, class and sexual orientation.
* Diversity expertise and training experience at individual, group, organizational, level and an understanding of how it relates to the environmental movement a plus.
* Experience working in the environmental field, especially across the nonprofit, higher education, government, and business sectors.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously.
* Ability to work independently and as a team member.
* Ability to communicate effectively electronically and via phone.
* Excellent written communication skills, proven ability to articulate vision and goals in a compelling way.
* Willingness and ability to travel.
