Position Overview:
Excellent part-time Program Coordinator opportunity with the Pudding River Watershed Council (PRWC) is available for a motivated individual or consulting firm. A university-educated person with sustainable watershed management and community organizing abilities is preferred. Telecommute and use the Woodburn office.
The job entails work in the field as well as professional office environment provided to the PRWC by the City of Woodburn. (An option for a 2-year contract extension or other positions on the PRWC staff is possible based on job performance and availability of state/local funding sources.)
Responsibilities:
- Organize PRWC Quarterly Public meetings and Board-Stewards work sessions;
- Administer a State of the Watershed survey;
- Participate, as needed, in Executive Committee meetings;
- Manage office and other basic tasks, as assigned;
- Respond to emails and calls in a professional and timely manner to effectively convey information about the PRWC. Serve as point-person, including duties to coordinate the PRWC Boards collaborations with consultants, volunteers, donors, etc.;
- Coordinate development of a PRWC website and produce brochure.
Additional duties, may include:
Coordinate the Creekshed Stewardship Initiative (CSI). The CSI education and outreach program requires a program coordinator with effective technical and community organizing skills to support the work of the PRWC's Stewards, Creekshed Team Leaders, and other stakeholders (e.g. encourage and advise volunteers in their efforts to plan grassroots tours, work parties, and other activities); Coordinate PRWC Board review of the deliverable of the PRWC's consultants.
Qualifications:
Ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate and/or graduate school degree from an accredited university in the field of watershed management, urban and regional planning, community development, sustainability, or public policy administration AND professional office and fieldwork experience in public and private sector settings. A candidate with sustainable watershed management and community organizing abilities is preferred.
Basic requirements:
- Ability to efficiently perform office and field work;
- Interest and/or knowledge of relevant watershed-related federal, state, and local laws and policies;
- Proven ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team;
- Proven ability to maintain and build partnerships;
- Microsoft Office computer skills and/or abilities;
- Excellent organization, written and verbal communication skills;
- Valid drivers license and reliable method of transportation;
- Ability to meet criminal background check standards.
Minimum qualifications:
Applicant must possess an undergraduate degree in environmental sciences, business, planning, or related fields AND 1 year of professional experience in watershed management, urban and regional planning, community development, public administration, or a closely related work experience. Otherwise, the applicant must currently be enrolled in post-secondary school AND possess at least 2 years of professional experience in watershed sustainability and community development.
Compensation: Approximately $750/month, which is 12-18 hrs per week for 4 months not to exceed $3,000. (Hourly rate as well as split between telecommute hours and office days in Woodburn are negotiable.) At this time, this job does not offer any benefits, unemployment insurance, etc.
Duration: March 23rd to June 23rd 2011, with option of 2-year extension (7/11-6/13).

Arrangements for utilization of the Woodburn City Council Chambers for public meetings can also be provided on an availability basis.
