Position Overview:

The Program Coordinator for Portland Parks and Recreation will be located in the Community Relations Department of Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R). The Community Relations Department is tasked with leveraging outside resources for PP&R which include grants, sponsorship and donations.

This position will coordinate all partnership functions currently covered under the "friends and allied partners" program as well as supporting the bureaus contributed income seeking efforts. We believe that a diversity of worldviews and life experiences bring critical value to our mission. Competitive candidates will have demonstrated experience engaging and organizing partnerships with culturally specific communities and organizations.

Responsibilities:  

  • Duties will include creating and maintaining a highly organized information system, ability to prepare plan and carry out highly visible public relations, media relations fundraising, marketing activities to achieve bureau communications and outreach objectives.
  • Competitive candidates will be highly organized and bring strong grant writing, communication and writing skills.
  • The program Coordinator will work independently performing detailed program coordination, problem solving and provide resolution to complex operational issues. 
  • The position will advise and direct partnership efforts at the program and planning levels inform and consult on partnership efforts to senior staff and the Commissioner's office.
  • Work will focus on efforts to overhaul and streamline our fundraising and partnership practices while growing the existing capacity internally and with external partners.
  • This position will serve in a support role to the Development Manager and the Community Relations Manager. 

To Qualify:

The following qualifications are required for this position: 

  • Knowledge and experience coordinating program activities with multiple stakeholders and facilitating development of agreement and consensus. 
  • Knowledge and experience communicating effectively and professionally to internal and external stakeholders, both orally and in writing. 
  • Knowledge and experience coordinating and recruiting program volunteers and or working with volunteer lead organizations to include Boards. 
  • Knowledge ability and experience working as a culturally competent professional with a broad range of partners. 
  • Knowledge of and experience applying skills, as a strategic partner, including the principles and practices of organizational development, public outreach and involvement, fundraising and marketing principles and practices. 
  • Knowledge of and experience analyzing difficult program, administrative, operational and organizational objectives and issues, evaluating alternatives and reaching sound, logical, fact-based conclusions and recommendations. 
  • Native-level Spanish language skills are highly desired.

  • The ability to pass an in-depth background investigation. 
  • A valid state (any state) driver license and acceptable driving record by time of hire.
