The Baltimore Neighborhood Energy Challenge, a program of the Baltimore Office of Sustainability and the Baltimore Community Foundation was launched in August of 2009 to motivate households to reduce their energy use. In its initial phase, BNEC was a 9-month pilot program in 8 Baltimore neighborhoods designed to raise awareness, reduce residential energy use, stimulate demand for energy conservation services, and learn lessons on how to motivate behavior change related to reducing residential energy use.
We are using what we learned during the pilot to expand BNEC citywide and connect the program to other efforts aimed at making Baltimore homes healthy and energy efficient. BNEC has become a national model of community mobilization, social marketing, and verifiable energy use and greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
Position Overview:
The BNEC Coordinator will be responsible for managing all project components needed to successfully run and grow this model program. Working in collaboration with the Baltimore Office of Sustainability, and key partner organizations including community associations and the local utility, the Coordinator will be the primary point of contact and organizing force behind BNEC.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise staff consisting of an Assistant Program Coordinator and AmeriCorps volunteer Community Organizers and Canvassers
- Coordinate energy use data gathering, tracking, and analysis
- Maintain metrics to track growth and success of program
- Manage program budget
- Coordinate neighborhood volunteers and work with neighborhood leaders to nurture program
- Assist with on-the-ground logistics planning in partnership with neighborhoods
- Manage and nurture partnerships among neighborhoods, schools, communities of faith, nonprofit organizations, local institutions, and private entities
- Convene team meetings with partner organizations and advisory groups
- Compile and author project reports and evaluations
- Maintain public project web interface
- Maintain and expand social marketing plan
- Execute communications plan and develop outreach materials
- Research best practices in residential energy conservation and social marketing
- Gather and maintain energy efficiency incentives & services clearinghouse
- Research and author grant applications for funding and program expansion
Qualifications:
- Minimum of BS/BA and/or3 years work experience in related field
- Knowledge of residential energy conservation and related programs
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage many facets of project coordination
- Demonstrated commitment to sustainability
- Ability to work well with leaders from a diverse set of Baltimore communities
- Attention to detail
- Experience managing budgets
- Ability to meet and manage deadlines
- Strong analytical skills
- Track record of being a team player
- Motivated self starter with an entrepreneurial spirit
- Passion for community outreach, energy efficiency, and making Baltimore more sustainable
Compensation: $50,000 plus benefits
Anticipated Start Date: January 2011
Schedule: Full-time Normal working hours with some flexibility required for evening and weekend meetings.
