EMBARQ, the World Resources Institute's Center for Sustainable Transport, is seeking a coordinator to provide administrative, financial management, and programmatic support for its Core Program, reporting to the center Director.

Established in May 2002, EMBARQ acts as a catalyst for socially, financially, and environmentally sound solutions to the problems of urban transport. EMBARQ focuses on cities in developing countries where air pollution, traffic congestion, and lack of access to clean and convenient transport are most acute and the poor bear the brunt of the problem. EMBARQ's strategy is to foster viable government-business-civil society partnerships whose members are committed to finding solutions to the transportation-related problems facing the cities in which they operate. Responsibilities:

  Strategy 

  • Support the director and senior management in the execution of program goals and plans
  • Support the program's long-term financial plans by creating scenarios that are useful for strategic planning and management of the program. This includes maintenance of all financial pro forma, processing payments, and tracking revenue vs. expenses.

Program management/execution

  • Oversee program operational performance, keeping track of schedules and deadlines.
  • Support management in ensuring that project managers complete program internal and external reports (POINTS, progress reports, proposals, budgets, donor reports, financial updates, etc.) on time.
  • Keep track of program's fundraising efforts and proposals.
  • Serve as EMBARQ contracts and grants manager (in charge of writing/drafting and keeping track of participant and research agreements, subgrants, other contracts and agreements, and grants EMBARQ receives)
  • Supports the integration of technical support and administrative functions to ensure smooth operations of the program.

Administrative and financial management/reporting

  • Produce monthly financial reviews of program spending and revenue to minimize program risk of deficits or over-spending vs. budget.
  • Monitor programs' budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with WRI's reporting requirements.
  • Participate in quarterly budget review meetings.
  • Serve as EMBARQ office manager and HR support.
  • Responsible for maintaining all EMBA.RQ files, information, and archives accessible and up-to-date.

External relations

  • Oversee grant and contract relationships and ensure compliance with internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Organize meetings, workshops, EMBARQ network retreats, and meetings of the EMBARQ Board of Advisors.

Qualifications:

  • A detail-oriented, highly organized individual with previous office/administrative experience.
  • Numerate and comfortable with budgets, spreadsheets, and accounting: a degree or coursework in training in accounting, finance or business
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, Spanish and/or Portuguese and/or Turkish highly desirable.
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and the Internet.
  • Capability to learn and use software applications that are used by EMBARQ and WRI.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and work under pressure with tight deadlines is a must.
