The Conservation Finance Program (CFP), a newly established program of the Open Space Institute, seeks to facilitate protection of eastern forests by making available grant and loan capital to the regions land trusts, piloting innovative financing techniques and sharing information about financing practices. The Program is currently active in two areas: the Northern Forest and New Jersey. An assessment is underway of a third potential area, the Southern Appalachian Mountains.

The CFP Program Associate will work closely with the CFP Director and coordinators of the Northern Forest Protection Fund, New Jersey Conservation Loan Program, and potentially the Southern Appalachian Protection Program to support and facilitate implementation of program objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

Research and analysis: Assist project coordinators in due diligence of loan and grant applications; prepare funding recommendations; develop written assessments of key conservation trends and developments in focus areas; and analyze and recommend program modifications.

Program outreach: Conduct outreach and public relations to key stakeholders throughout our focus areas by posting news to the OSI web site, and working with the Senior Writer on developing appropriate content for the Web page. Interface with prospective grantees or borrowers. Handle general inquiries. Organize and participate in meetings of the regional advisory committees.

Fundraising: Assist the Directors of Conservation Finance and Development with fundraising grant proposals and reports; monitor and evaluate grant and loan requirements.

Program administration: Establish and coordinate systems for tracking and organizing grants and loans. Monitor and enforce grantee and borrower compliance with grant and loan terms and implement course corrections where appropriate; keep initiatives on schedule. Review grant and loan documentation; prepare closing binders. Document programs using Power Point, Excel, Access and Microsoft office software.

The Program Associate should possess excellent analytical and communication skills, three to five years relevant conservation work experience and preferably graduate training in public policy, planning or environmental affairs.

The Program Associate will report directly to the Director of Conservation Finance and work out of OSIs New York offices.

Additional Qualifications:
