Description
The Natural Resources Defense Council, a national non-profit environmental advocacy organization, seeks a Program Assistant to join its Smart Growth and International teams, specifically dealing with the promotion of alternatives to sprawling land development in the United States and with NRDC's China Clean Energy Project. The position is located in Washington, DC.
NRDC uses law, science and the support of more than a million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. This varied and exciting position offers an excellent opportunity to become acquainted with the business of environmental advocacy within one of the nation's leading nonprofit institutions.
Responsibilities include:
*Administrative support including word processing, editing, and proofreading legal, scientific, technical, and public education documents, and various office tasks such as copying, filing, mailing, and faxing.
* Coordinating staff schedules, handling travel arrangements and completing expense reports.
*Serving as initial contact person for program information and assisting senior program staff in assignments such as research, writing, and representing NRDC at meetings related to the organization's Smart Growth and International work.
* Assisting with coverage for receptionist and other program assistants when they are out of the office.
Qualifications:
* Strong interest in issues relating to Smart Growth and the International environment.
*Superior written and oral communication skills.
*Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office applications and the Internet.
* Ability to work independently, organize and coordinate multiple tasks, set priorities, get along well with colleagues, follow organizational procedures, and perform accurately under deadlines. Meticulous attention to detail.
*Bachelor's degree required.
