EXCITING OPPORTUNITY!

Tsunami Fund is a small-but-growing-rapidly 501(c) 4 organization that provides fiscal sponsorship, management services, lobbying reporting, and other support to an emergent number of nonprofit advocacy organizations in the social change sector. Working closely with the Tides Center, Tsunami Fund enables its Projects to focus on lobbying, public education, and the other programmatic elements of political advocacy work while providing them with critical organizational infrastructure. Tsunami Fund employs a unique business model that incorporates the strengths of both for-profit and non-profit organizations. We are in our second year of operation.

The Tsunami Fund team works together closely in a “start-up” environment and promotes the active participation & development of all staff. The Tsunami Fund offices are located at the Thoreau Center for Sustainability in the Presidio located in the city of San Francisco.

Position Summary

The Program Assistant is a newly created position and will support both the Program Officers and the Managing Director in providing management services to our growing base of nonprofit advocacy clients (Projects) and in building various components of Tsunami Fund’s administrative infrastructure. The Program Assistant will perform a broad range of tasks including database management, document processing, grants management support, and systems development support. The Program Assistant will also work directly with the Program Officers and Managing Director on special assignments as needed. The position requires an eagerness to learn, an aptitude for customer service, a keen attention to detail, excellent communication skills, the ability to work both independently and with a team, a willingness to work with a diverse client-base, and the capacity to maintain a high level of productivity in a fast-paced environment.

Major Responsibilities
Administration: Provides administrative support to Program Officers and the Managing Director. Duties include database management, forms generation, grants management support, and support in materials development & special research projects; assists with the development and implementation of key infrastructure processes. Supports the Managing Director with both client management and planning including meetings, travel and phone scheduling. Must have the ability to both maintain and create systems to support the work of the Program Officers & Managing Director.

Planning: Manages certain discreet systems and plans work accordingly. Collaborates in planning for the organization as needed.

Communication: Practices direct communication and maintains healthy communication with other Tsunami Fund staff and clients as needed. As Tsunami Fund exists as part of the Tides community of organizations, must develop strong working relationships with staff in other Tides organizations.

Client Relationships: Helps maintain positive client relations with projects, donors and the general public.

Teamwork: Participates effectively as a member of the Tsunami Fund team, and participates with the larger Tides community as necessary. Develops good cross-component and cross-organizational relationships. Assumes special projects as needed.

Wellness & Safety: Carries out job responsibilities in a manner that reflects concern for personal health and safety and that of co-workers. Is responsible for learning and following all published job safety policies and procedures.

Requirements:
Experience: Strong administrative background desired including telephone, computer, customer service, database management, and prior experience working with a collaborative team. Demonstrated experience in the nonprofit, customer service, or public policy sectors a plus.

Knowledge: Working knowledge of the nonprofit and social change sectors, with a particular interest in political advocacy.

Skills & Abilities: Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well both independently and on a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills. The ability to organize and balance workload under deadlines and multiple commitments. The willingness to take initiative and problem-solve. The ability to demonstrate sensitivity to and appreciation for diverse viewpoints and different communication styles. Extreme attention to detail and the ability to deal with a large volume of activity. The ability to work well by telephone with the client-base. Strong computer skills particularly with databases, word-processing, and spreadsheets.

Physical Requirements: Requires 6+ hours per day of talking and listening; 6+ hours per day of standing, walking, reaching, and sitting, primarily at the computer. The ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
