Description

Blue Sun is a producer and marketer of premium renewable fuel products.

Position Overview:

Candidate will be responsible for the front line supervision of plant employees and equipment in the Blue Sun Biodiesel St. Joseph Biodiesel Refinery; primarily the production of B100 biodiesel, production planning and the training, and the coaching and evaluation of plant personnel. Candidate will also be accountable for adherence to Blue Sun SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and Quality System (BQ9000) requirements. Interprets and enforces company policies and safety regulations.

Responsibilities:

Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Production and planning including daily, weekly and monthly plans and estimates.
  • Responsible for ensuring daily Quality checks of in-process material are performed to ensure quality of products is maintained at a high level.
  • Responsible for participating in the annual internal quality system audits and periodic third party audits.
  • Responsible for training/retraining of personnel to ensure compliance to SOPs
  • Supervising the lead operator and overseeing the production operators to ensure adherence to the QMS (Quality Management System) and customer specifications/requirements resulting in a safely produced quality product produced on time to the customer.
  • Responsible for overseeing and ensuring defective raw material is recognized documented and processed for return to vendor.
  • Responsible for overseeing a weekly inventory of stock levels and ensuring the optimum levels are built and maintained to meet customer and plant revenue expectations.
  • Oversee and safely maintain the production at the biodiesel plant while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local and company policies, procedures, regulations and laws.
  • Responsible for maintaining calibration of production equipment.
  • Responsible for assuring full shifts at plant, managing employee absences and overtime.
  • Conduct periodic checks of plant for safe and efficient operation.
  • Ensures workplace injuries and accidents are reported in a timely manner. Attends monthly safety meetings and participates in the quarterly safety committee meetings. Ensure all work safety rules are strictly observed and safety training is regularly scheduled, conducted and documented. Work toward the goal of an injury and accident free environment.
  • Maintain neat, clean and orderly plant appearance.
  • Resolve problems associated with plant operation.
  • Provide coaching and corrective action promptly, to ensure that poor performers are identified, documented and improved to acceptable performance, or released.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of college preferably with an AA Degree in a technical discipline, with a BS degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or engineering technology degree highly preferred.
  • Must have an in-depth understanding and application of quality principles, concepts, practices, and standards.
  • Previous experience in a production environment preferred, with experience in a plant with chemical operations, especially biodiesel, highly preferred.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organization, documentation and follow-up skills.
  • Computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite at a basic level.
  • Ability to read and comprehend material safety data sheets.
  • Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule to meet management requirements and customer expectations.
  • Must be able to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds.
  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
