The Consortium for Oceanographic Research and Education (CORE), Inc., a non-profit consortium of over 65 ocean research and education institutions, is seeking a highly qualified individual, with significant scientific leadership, advocacy and organization management skills to fill the position of President and Chief Executive.
The President reports to the Board of Governors consisting of the Deans and Directors of the member institutions and is charged by them to carry out the missions of the Corporation.
CORE carries out its missions through education projects, public policy and lobbying activities, and research projects. Specifically, CORE currently manages the National Oceanographic Partnership Program Office for the National Ocean Research Leadership Council; The National Ocean Sciences Bowl on behalf of five Federal agencies and private sponsors; the Secretariat for the Census of Marine Life; and conducts a variety of activities to inform and educate the Congress.
Qualified applicants should have broad based experience and demonstrated success in senior management positions in the field of science and technology, preferably in oceanography or related fields. The position requires a person with vision and ability to work with senior executives in academia, Federal agencies, the U.S. Congress, the private sector and private foundations. Experience in Congressional interactions and in managing national and international programs are requirements.
